Crinoid on Hard Coral

Crinoid on Hard Coral - Indonesia, 2009

I'm not sure why, but I am fascinated by crinoids. They are a very primitive kind of starfish. They have toothpick size legs so they can walk around; they can swim, using their appendages as fins; but they usually just hang out on fans and soft corals or someplace to catch the nutrients from the passing current. I enjoy the various shapes they make. See Red and White Crinoid, Yellow Crinoid and Orange Crinoid Curl.
