Orange Crinoid Curl

Orange Crinoid Curl - Solomon Islands, 2005

Crinoids, or feather dusters, are a primative kind of starfish. They have toothpick-like legs for mobility and for hanging on, but they are generally quite stationary. They often hang out on a sea fan where they can feed on nutrients from the current. See Red Fan with Black Crinoids on the Wide Angles page.

This image is of the top few inches of the 'feather' part of the crinoid. I am fascinated by their beautiful shapes and designs so there will be many more crinoid images coming soon.

Orange Crinoid Curl is recommended up to 13 x 20. It is also available on cards.
