Sea Apple and Orange Soft Coral

Sea Apple and Orange Soft Coral - Indonesia, 2007

The Sea Apple, a rather rare sea cucumber, is named for it's similarity in looks to a Red Delicious apple. They are usually about 6 inches high. The tentacles come out when the animal is feeding. Each tentacle in turn curls up and inserts itself into the center "mouth" on the top. It's a bit gross, reminding one of "The Little Shop of Horrors."
