Though the lionfish has a poisonous dorsal fin, they usually are not of much danger because they don't move quickly and are most often tucked back in the reef. They are related to the scorpion fish; see White Scorpionfish and Scorpionfish Face. Lionfish are beautiful additions to the reef of the Pacific Ocean, but recently have become an invasive species along the Atlantic coast of America. They are quite a menace here as they don't have predators in their new habitat.
