Two Pink Feather Dusters

Two Pink Feather Dusters - Indonesia, 2009

This image and Three Pink Feather Dusters are beautiful examples of the feeding filaments of tubeworms. The worm-like part of the animal is not seen, but remains in a tube, pushing out the feathery filaments to feed. They are very sensitive to water motion, so without much disturbance they will pull the pretty filaments inside the tube. See also Tubeworm Filaments and Swirling Filament.
